
Collingwood School
Lucy is Head of Music at Collingwood School, an independent prep school in Wallington, Sutton. This role involves teaching academic music from Nursery up to Year 6, running the school choirs and ensembles and organising the music department, including a team of peripatetic teachers. She also teaches individual cello, violin, trumpet, piano and singing lessons. She regularly organises musical events for the children including numerous concerts, competitions, festivals, musical theatre productions and school trips. Recently, she has taken a choir from the school to sing at the O2 arena for a 'Young Voices' concert, has conducted the school production of 'The Wizard of Oz' and has helped her Year 6 class work on a composition for the BBC Ten Pieces 'Earth Mission' competition, which was later selected to feature on the BBC website.
Music Makers
Lucy's parents run the successful Music Makers courses, which she has attended every summer since the age of four. At fifteen she started working on Music Makers as a teacher, and has continued to do so every summer since. On these courses her responsibilities include leading choir rehearsals, taking string, brass and recorder sectionals, rehearsing and conducting groups, performing in instrument demonstrations and running musical games and activities for the children. Lucy has now spent well over a year of her life on Music Makers courses; 28 of these as a course member and 45 as a member of staff!
Private Teaching
Lucy has taught privately in London for over ten years. Her students have ranged in age from three years to adult, and she teaches in Wimbledon and the surrounding areas, as well as online.
The Purcell School of Music
Lucy was involved in Outreach projects at the Purcell School, which included organising and leading workshops, concerts and assemblies at numerous schools across the UK. In Sixth Form, she was a member of the award-winning 'Impulse' group, led by Alison Cox, OBE. In 2007 she was was one of six students chosen to represent the Purcell School's Impulse group at 'The Commonwealth Resounds', held in Kampala, Uganda. In her final year at Purcell, she was also a member of Kevin Hathway's 'Elastic Band'; an orchestra dedicated to putting on interactive concerts for local school children. As an alumni she was invited back to work with Impulse as a staff member and workshop leader on a tour of Hertfordshire.
